Day 1: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio
I’m writing this update from a hotel in Youngstown, Ohio. So far, our trip has been a little bit on the harrowing side, but only due to the weather conditions on the road.

Stamford Connecticut- I’ve been there once in my life, for about an hour and a half. And now I’m going back for a much longer period of time.
I stumbled upon Edric’s Treasure Hunt via a Google search a few weeks ago, and I was pleased to see I had time to participate in the 2021 hunt. But after spending 5+ hours on it, I have a little bit of buyer’s remorse for my time spent on this free contest.
I really could not care less about my birthday. I can barely remember my age, so it feels strange to celebrate when it hits a milestone. In spite of that, I had an excellent time on the day that just happened to be my birthday!
I’m stealthily on track for putting out one puzzle game per month for 2021. March is almost at an end, though, so what comes next?
Cryptex Hunt 2021 is over, and the results are in. We took 9th. Not bad considering over 700 teams, but I’m looking to win it all next year. Our group was in the top 3-4 for the first three (of five) games in the series today before falling down the ranks a little.
I joined a team for Cryptex Hunt 2021, and we’re killing it! I had never heard of this contest before this year, but it’s fantastic. Highly recommended for fans of old adventure games like Zork, Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, and Shadowgate. And huge bonus points to anyone else who has ever heard of my favorite games of that genre- Hugo’s House of Horrors, Hugo 2: Whodunnit, and Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom.
Death Come True is not exactly a puzzle game, but there are puzzle and mystery elements scattered throughout. The premise of the game- navigate various video scenes, making decisions at key moments that impact the flow of the story. Many of these choices lead to death, but rather than being penalized for death, you’re rewarded for it, collecting “death medals” for each death reached and unlocking secret videos for collecting many of these.
I’m really, really, really excited. Tall Tales Mysteries has announced its second virtual murder mystery weekend, and I nabbed a first class ticket!
January 3, 2021- I left Springfield, MO with only about half of a plan. I knew it would involve at least one escape room, and hopefully more. Thankfully, Deadlock Escape had availability that evening.
