Puppies and Puzzles
I can summarize my last two weeks with two line items- MIT Mystery Hunt and Puppy.

I’ve got a lot of big plans for 2022. In all honesty, I’ve actually been waiting for the new year to make a few big moves, primarily registering a business officially so that I can cleanly start tracking everything for a new tax year. 2022 is here, and so are my updates!
It felt like an eternity since my last puzzle hunt when Silph Puzzle Hunt landed, so I was thrilled to dive in. My team didn’t finish the hunt, but there was a lot to enjoy.
Every once in a while, I get a reminder about how the overall customer experience is more important than any one aspect of an escape room. I’ve shared before about how a strong game master can elevate an average experience and an inattentive one can ruin a world class game. I recently got a reminder of exactly why this is so important.
Though my team didn’t qualify for the ERChamp finals this year, we still went back and played the finale as soon as we had a chance. Short summary- we really enjoyed it despite getting stuck badly early on. I’m already looking forward to next year’s contest.
This game doesn’t exist yet, but I’m dabbling with creating an entry for it. The setup cost is low – zero if I keep it to the minimum viable product – but with just a little added investment I can make it extremely neat.
The ERChamp 2021 qualifying round is over and… We didn’t make it. 🙁
October 11, 2021 – It was the last full day of our tour around the American west, and we still had a long way to go. We started the day in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and we had a reservation at a VRBO in Boise, Idaho. Everything in between was a blank slate. But as I looked to my plan for the day, I realized I really wanted to squeeze in a room at Labyrinth Escape.
One of my favorite online contests, ERChamp, is approaching rapidly! November 13, 2021 is the date.
Our trip was a success! Starting and ending in Boise, Idaho, Christina and I completed a big circle around the northwest US, solving nine escape rooms along the way. But our strangest story involved VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner), not escape rooms.
