Five Days, Six States, Eight Escapes
This last week contained my biggest adventure in a long time. After spending a few days in Las Vegas, Christina and I flew to South Dakota and experienced several national parks, including Mount Rushmore.

Yes, this is the worst photo I’ve used on my blog. Blurry photo through windowshades with a too-visible screen. But it’s Vegas!
I stumbled across an incredible little travel secret this week while planning a Vegas trip. It’s going to revolutionize how I travel.
As we’re getting the Chicago escape room meetup going, it’s probably a good time to talk about what makes meeting up with new people exciting. I always love getting to play escape rooms with new people, and whether those people are trying their first escape room or thousandth, it’s more likely than not going to be a great experience.
Out of all the escape room / puzzle home games, I’ve seen the most hype around Box One. Produced by Neil Patrick Harris, the actor famous for Doogie Howser, How I Met Your Mother, and Doctor Horrible, the game graces the shelves of Target- a rare feat for a niche puzzle game that doesn’t advertise what exactly it is. So does the game live up to the hype?
The last few weeks have been full of treasure hunts and puzzle design. Between partcipating in a few new treasure hunts and joining the ERChamp design team, I’ve had my hands full.
What do you do for someone who reaches an escape room milestone? I periodically went out of my way to do something special for mine- my 300th room was at a port of call in Mexico, and my 500th was a four hour deluxe game. When my dad reached #199, I knew I wanted to do something special for his.
Today was the grand finale of Enter the Passphrase puzzle hunt! So how did it go? Well…
Most of the puzzle hunts I’ve done recently are for bragging rights only, so it’s cool to finally be diving into one with a $10,000 prize. Enter the Passphrase is an active puzzle hunt that will wrap up on June 4th with the huge prize going to the first solver.
Final tally for the trip which started Friday before last – thirteen escape rooms and two Geocaches. I wish I had more time to explore some of the neat places I encountered but am ultimately happy with what I was able to see.
