4 Days, 6 Escape Rooms

I can’t imagine a better way to start the year. By the end of the day on January 4th, I had already completed 6 escape rooms, with only one of them in my home state of Illinois.

I summarized the first few days in my previous post, but just to recap:

Jan 1: Great Xscape (Rolla, MO) – 1 room
Jan 2: Escape Artist 401 (Springfield, MO) – 1 room
Jan 3: Deadlock Escape (St. Charles, MO) – 3 rooms
Jan 4: Escape Town Peoria (Peoria, IL) – 1 room

Picking up where my last post left off, I hit the road from Springfield early Sunday. I arrived at the Quality Inn in Cahokia, IL about 3:30, just in time to watch my Green Bay Packers defeat the Chicago Bears and lock up the #1 seed in the NFC.

Christina continued onward to get back to our home late Sunday, while I stayed one more day with my dad at the hotel. Like me, my dad has an unlimited appetite for escape rooms, and we booked three rooms back-to-back-to-back at Deadlock and headed there right after the football game.

I was a bit exhausted after so much travel and playing laser tag all weekend with my niece and nephews, but after jumping into the first room, my adrenaline got rolling and I had a fantastic time at Deadlock. I will post more on that later; my experience at Deadlock definitely warrants a deeper summary.

January 4th, we penciled in a minor detour to Peoria on our way home, adding about an hour to our trip to be able to tackle the wild west room at Escape Town Peoria. We also hunted for geocaches in Peoria, striking out at a few before finally finding one behind a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.

After playing through the wild west room, we hit the road and got back home in the late evening. I debated booking another escape room for 1/5 to keep my streak alive, but I’m not intending to solve an escape room every single day in 2021, so I will let the streak die today. I’m debating some variation, of playing some kind of puzzle at least once a day and commenting on it, but I’m not sure yet if I want to put myself on the hook for that. Stay tuned.

I am highly motivated to get back to doing something ambitious- it’s been two years since I completed the 50 state challenge and it’s not my way to sit idle.

I hope you’re having as good of a start to 2021 as I am- happy solving!
