September 24, 2018 – I’m sitting in the airport after a three day stint in the Atlantic northeast. Five more states knocked down, taking me up to a grand total of 46! The final four are Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. This weekend was a total blast. Christina and I solved seven escape rooms and still had time to experience a little more of each of the states we visited, from the Maine coast to the deep hills of Vermont.
For non-escape room elements from each area we particularly enjoyed… Portland, Maine had a lot. We started at Becky’s Diner, a diner just off the water with a nice diverse menu (including breakfast food all day) and seasonal pumpkin spice whoopie pies. Allen Park in Portland was also a top spot for us, and we’re not the only ones who recognize this area’s beauty, judging from the wedding party taking photos there. But despite the great views, neither the parking nor the paths were crowded.
Riding through the New Hampshire and Vermont forests in the fall was wonderful to see. We stayed overnight at a lodge in the middle of the forest to really get the full experience. The only escape rooms in Vermont appear to be in the northwest corner of the state, so we got to see a lot of the wilderness en route to our destinations.
The riverfront in Providence, RI also made a nice quiet stop after solving an escape room. I like the atmosphere of the brick buildings just a block off the water. The temperature in Rhode Island was absolutely perfect. Massachusetts was brisk, and the northern states were a little chilly but still pleasant.
All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! Looking forward to providing some reports on the puzzles we solved, plus a spooky bonus!
