I wrote recently about the James Bond Escape the Museum Experience at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. I thought I had lost the materials from the event, but as luck would have it, I found them buried in a stack of mail!
The materials I included show a few of the neat tricks from the event. You can see the map of the museum pointing out where to find various fake Bond villains. The leftmost image is one of my favorite challenges from the event- searching for the right perspective to reproduce various grayscale images. The middle and right images show the final metapuzzle for the event. If you look carefully, you can see I didn’t read the instructions thoroughly enough at first and missed step 3! And finally, you can see the nametags give to victorious participants.
I appreciated the event, and after finding these documents and looking at them a little more closely, I found some other very valuable information- the event’s designer! The event was created by The Mystery League – a Chicago-based puzzle design company. The Mystery League’s site shows a ridiculous amount of cool projects, with many of them based in Chicago.
I also left the website feeling like I just missed out on a great opportunity! The Mystery League’s designer, Sandy Weisz, teaches a class on Transmedia Puzzle Design at the University of Chicago. I went to the University of Chicago for both my undergrad and grad degrees, but unfortunately, I graduated with my master’s degree about five years before this class started. Crossing my fingers that I can find some way to sit in on this class in the future!
I can’t get over how cool The Mystery League’s previous projects have been. If you have a chance, check out their projects page!
