Jigsaw: Candylicious (Buffalo)

Candylicious
Manufacturer: Buffalo
Pieces: 1000

This may be my new favorite jigsaw puzzle, and I may want to keep this one to put together again at a later date.  The experience was quite different than I anticipated when looking at the box.

Because the same colors are used in so many different places on the puzzle, it’s not very easy to sort.  We started with the chocolate elements (the only brown on the board), and the unique patterns on each piece of chocolate made this section go quickly.  But from that point onward, the jigsaw puzzle became more of a logic puzzle.

The puzzle has a high number of unique threads running through it- the candy cane, the edges of each box, the edge of the bowl…  As we worked through the puzzle, our goal became to identify a new texture we could isolate and build out off of another piece we had finished.  So the wooden box edge connected to the candy cane which connected to the glass bowl in the middle…

I don’t recall having done another puzzle like this- usually we can plan out our strategy from the get-go, i.e. separating sky from trees from mountains from water and developing section by section.  Candylicious gave us a number of “aha!” moments when we realized a pattern we could pick out of the pile and rapidly finish another section of the puzzle.

We never got stuck at any point- progress was steady and fast, so it’s highly recommended for an easier puzzle to keep the mind engaged.
