Florida 2023

This is going to be a very quick and simple post, but I’ve got a big update on my little trip to Florida!

Our flight from Chicago to Orlando started out fine. Once we landed, though, we had to wait more than an hour to get off the plane due to delays with gate access. Our rental car agency closed one of its locations due to storms the day before, so we had to scramble to find another.

Thankfully, after those early delays, everything started bouncing in our favor. The rental car agency gave us a free upgrade to a Dodge Challenger. We played two highly rated escape rooms- Granny’s Satirical Miracle at Escape Ventures and Captain Spoopy Bones at Doldrick’s. Both were great. We grabbed a Hungry Howie’s pizza- it’s one of our guilty pleasures whenever we travel. And our rental unit looking out on Tampa Bay ended up being perfect.

Day two, we started the day trying a local coffee shop called The Blend on our way to Exit Games Clearwater. We played their two games, Servants of Slight and Pins & Needles Tattoo Parlor, back to back, and both were very cool. We toured the SS American Victory- a still-functional WWII cargo ship. We tried an acai bowl place called Fit Bowl which was refreshing on a mercilessly hot day. We ended the day by going to the beach on the bay and getting our feet wet.

ERChamp eliminations were also today! It seems like the chapter was very well received, and I can’t wait to start exploring the data from this round and seeing which puzzles were easiest, hardest, etc.

For tomorrow, we’ve got a breakfast joint picked out. I just bought an annual pass to Sea World- strangely it’s cheaper to buy an annual pass than it is to buy two general admission tickets plus parking. I’m not sure we’ll be back to take advantage of the pass more than once, but it’s fun to have.

That’ll have to do for now- it’s getting late here and we have to hit the road early to get in a full day at Sea World, which is 1.5 hours away from where we’re staying. I have plenty of stories to share from the experiences of the last few days, and I can’t wait to share more.
