Jigsaw – Starry Night

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted about a new jigsaw puzzle. This time we took on Van Gogh’s masterpiece, Starry Night. And man, it was brutal!

Starry Night
Manufacturer: Flame Tree
Pieces: 1000

The initial sorting went smoothly, with a few distinct bright yellow spots that were easy to assemble. After that- blue/white swirls, and dark brown.

After the yellow spots and the village at the bottom, we had to start trial & error, and with a 1000 piece puzzle, that’s quite an effort.

We made up a little ground with the brown tower, since the brushstrokes are primarily vertical which limited how many pieces we’d have to try in each spot. We also were able to pick out the dark blue hills across the center of the image.

Finally, we were left with the blue/white swirls. This was the longest segment by far, and each individual piece felt like a victory. There wasn’t a great way to find matches, and there were a lot of failed click attempts along the way, but we finally got there.

The end image is wonderful, though. Starry Night is famous for a reason, and I’m sure many people who assembled it as a puzzle glued it together and put it on the wall.

Piece total since 3/20/2020: 10286
