Cancun: Relax & Puzzle

I can’t believe we’re already on the latter half of our trip to Cancun! This trip has been a little different from any other I’ve ever done, but still very enjoyable.

What’s different about this one? Well, the main difference is that we’re staying at an all-inclusive resort, which includes food, alcohol, and entertainment. We figured it’s a great time to try a place like this, with COVID-19 shutting so much down. Typically my inclination would be to explore as far and wide as possible, to leave the hotel early and come back late, so it’s a change of pace for me.

I have still had a good opportunity to keep puzzles on my mind though. Today we ventured out into town and I grabbed a Geocache. I also had an opportunity to relax and read through Erno Rubik’s new book Cubed, which is part autobiography and part story of the Rubik’s Cube.

We’ve also fully taken advantage of the features of the resort we’re staying at, the GR Solaris. Day 1 we watched the Michael Jackson theater show, we’ve had plenty of elegant meals, and we’ve ordered lots of ice cream directly to our room. We’ve waded into the ocean and swam a little. We’ve sat out on our balcony and watched the waves.

All this has given me a great opportunity to think over a few of my next actions, particularly with regards to a few pet projects I have. Between the Red Bull Discovery Lab, Escape Room International Championship, and now reading Rubik’s story, I’ve got a triple dose of inspiration. Not that I was unmotivated before, but particularly now I’ve picked up a few new tools and lenses with which to approach challenges in front of me, and I’ve never been more excited for the future.
