Snowy Trek: Do or Die

No, this post title isn’t an Antarctica-themed escape room. It’s a summary of my weekend. Christina and I hit the road right after work Friday and headed north, despite warnings of a serious snowstorm.

Through Madison, Wisconsin, the sky was completely clear. We were laughing about the forecast and taking our sweet time. Then a few snowflakes started to fall… then a lot.

Pretty soon the road didn’t resemble a road any more. My eyes started to hurt as I stared forward trying to focus on spotting signs of where the actual road was. I had to keep reminding myself to focus on all my surroundings, not just to straddle the thickest white line I could see. We passed a dozen spun out cars and got to our destination (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) more than two hours later than planned.

But we got there! And since then, the weekend has been great. Aside from some serious snow accumulation (see photo of buried bike), the conditions have been fine in these northern territories.

We ended up solving three escape rooms this Saturday, and we might take on another one on our way home, perhaps in the Wisconsin Dells or Madison. Trapped’s Legend of Lyndale House lived up to the hype for a 90 minute experience in a 3 story building. We then ventured our way south of Minneapolis to try the Flying Dutchman at Escape MSP before heading back to Eau Claire and playing Throne Games at Tactical Escape 101. We must have been on a roll because Christina and I set new records at Escape MSP and Tactical Escape.

All three experiences were fun, and these kind of short range trips are perfect for weekends when we have nothing else on the calendar. I’ll post more about each of the individual experiences at another time.

In the middle of winter, escape rooms are a perfectly good activity for staying warm while being active mentally and physically, so this feels like a weekend very well spent. And it’s only halfway done!
