Short Update – It’s Gone!

Last week I shared some thoughts based on discovering that a murder mystery game I left at a Little Free Library remained unused. I need to update the takeaways on that, because this week, it was gone!

To summarize my notes from last week: I expected an item like a murder mystery game or an escape room game to go quickly when offered for free, largely due to the novelty factor of finding one at a place like this. I was surprised to see that no one picked it up after a week, even for free.

My takeaways from last week still hold. Hundreds of people must have walked past without picking the game up before one person finally did. It’s a niche product, at a niche location, and that combination means I should expect limited traction in the short term.

All the same, I plan to keep bringing items to this location and others like it. It’s worth more to me than selling them to generate interest in mind games with someone who wasn’t already a fan. I’ll be keeping an eye on two things moving forward.

If I drop off another game / puzzle at the same location, does it go faster the next time?

Will anyone be the first to comment on the page linked by the QR code I left on each item?

And I suppose another really big one, albeit a longer shot:

Will the game show up again at the Little Free Library, after the person who picked it up finishes using it?
